4th BRICS Film Festival

The BRICS Film Festival showcases productions from the five member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The festival will include film-related activities regarding production, industry, screening, and preservation, besides hosting film screenings, forums, exhibitions, and a film residency programme for students from the five countries. The 4th edition of the BRICS Film Festival aims to highlight past, present, and future film productions by providing activities that approach film history, foster professionalization, and nurture new talents from each of the five nations.

The 4th BRICS Film Festival will be held in the city of Niterói, State of Rio de Janeiro, from September 23th to October 9th. In order to provide a local experience, activities will be held at the following venues: Centro de Artes UFF, in Icaraí; Reserva Cultural, in Gragoatá; Teatro Municipal João Caetano, in Downtown Niterói; and Sala Interartes – UFF, in São Domingos, but other venues might be included later. Easily accessible by walking, bus or car, these traditional venues are among the top cultural facilities the State of Rio de Janeiro has to offer.

The 2019 edition will be organized by the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), which has not only the second-oldest film school of the country, but also one of the most high-profile ones. The institution’s organization staff is experienced in hosting large events and comprises faculty members, students, university employees, and film industry professionals. This provides a network of knowledge building and exchange while highlighting this edition’s motto: treasuring the past, the present, and the future of filmmaking.

The university previously organized the 8th and 9th editions of the Film and Human Rights Exhibition, in a joint effort with the Brazilian Secretariat for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic, and the 1st and 2nd editions of the project Create with Difference – Filmmaking and Human Rights.

The curatorial team comprises renowned UFF professors experienced in curating film exhibitions.
